Easy on the eye.

Accessibility statement

We want this site to be easy for everyone to read and use — including people who find small text hard, use a screen reader, or don't use a mouse.

What we've done

  • Body text is set in Atkinson Hyperlegible, a typeface designed by the Braille Institute for people with low vision, at a comfortable size.
  • Text colours are chosen for strong contrast against their backgrounds.
  • You can zoom the page up to 200% and it will reflow rather than cut anything off.
  • Everything can be reached with the keyboard, with a clear yellow outline showing where you are, and a "skip to content" link at the top.
  • Photos have text descriptions for screen readers; decorative graphics are hidden from them.
  • Form errors are written in plain English and linked to the box they refer to.
  • If your device is set to reduce motion, the site turns off its animations.
  • Every guide has a print button that produces a clean, printer-friendly copy.
  • We write in plain English, and our Jargon Buster explains any technical words we can't avoid.

What we haven't done yet

We haven't had the site independently audited against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). We've built it with those guidelines in mind, but there may be things we've missed.

Tell us if something isn't working

If anything on this site is hard to read or use, please tell us — ring 01943 498005 or email help@yorkshire.support. We'll fix it, and if you need a guide in a different format in the meantime, we'll sort that for you too.
