1. Our Data Destruction Standard: No Compromise
We don’t just delete files; we obliterate data. Under the expert oversight of our Operations Manager, Steve (30+ years IT experience), we have established a standard based on the leading industry benchmark: NIST SP 800-88 Revision 1.
This standard is recognized by government agencies and global corporations as the “gold standard” for media sanitisation. We apply it with zero variance:
- For Reusable Assets: NIST 800-88 PURGE If a device is functional, we perform a Purge using industry-leading software (Certified Crypto Erase or Overwriting). This ensures data is completely irretrievable, even using advanced laboratory techniques, allowing the asset to be safely repurposed within the circular economy.
- For Faulty/End-of-Life Media: NIST 800-88 DESTROY For media that cannot be wiped and verified – for whatever reason – we take the final step and Physically Destroy the item. Through industrial shredding, we ensure no physical trace of the data remains.
2. Why “Standard Clearing” is a Liability
Many other ITAD providers offer a “NIST 800-88 CLEAR” or “NIST 800-88” service, it sounds similar – but if it’s not NIST 800-88 PURGE or NIST 800-88 DESTROY then your data is not gone!
At Revolve, we believe “Clear” is not good enough. Common methods used by less rigorous providers—or attempted in-house—do not actually remove data; they simply hide it.
The Hidden Dangers:
- “Reset This PC” (Windows Command): This is a cosmetic reset. It makes the computer look empty, but the underlying data remains largely intact on the drive.
- Formatting/Windows Reinstallation: A format simply deletes the “index” of the drive. It’s like removing the contents page from a book; every chapter is still there, and any motivated individual with basic forensic tools can recover it.
